Rooting for the Penguins
In Chicago most of my life there are universal traits that a chicago sports fan most follow. Of course the biggest is the love and hate relationship with the White Sox and Cubs. However, back in the eighties and early nineties, Chicago was a hockey town until the Chicago Bulls won all of those championships. Why do I say this because the Red Wings are in the Stanley Cup Finals and as a Blackhawks fan I most oppose this winning tradition of the Red Wings once and for all.
Go Penguins, because the Red Wings are the biggest enemy of any loyal balckhawk fan. Unless you are talking about the 1992 Final where the Penguins beat the Hawks. In spite of that, the Red Wings and Blackhawks are rivals and if you are a Hawks fan then, let us pull for the Sydney Crosby led Pittsburgh Penguins.
I just watched game three of the Stanley Cup Final and it was a great game. Going into this game Pittsburgh had not been allowed a goal yet as Detroit won the first two games in shutout fashion. Well Sydney Crosby as what great players do they showed up when they had to and he scored two goals in a 3 to 2 win.
Hockey analyists are talking that Crosby is the next Wayne Gretzky and if he wants that comparison to hold true he needs to show up and beat one of the biggest franchises in hockey history. Detroit has dominated hockey for almost a decade and it is time for them to be taken off the top of the mountain. We as Chicago fans most rally and begin to bring Hockeytown back to Chicago. With the Hawks finishing with a promising year and beating the Red Wings more than they beat us, despite Detroit having the best record in the NHL, the rivalry will be ignited again. So let us start now and begin bringing down the mighty Red Wings and root for the Penguins. If you want a break form the NBA playoffs then I say you go watch game 4 on Saturday and root for the Penguins.
